Here I plan to share some knowhow about NetBSD, my Operating System of choice. Maybe some ISDN configuration stuff or other things I spent much time with. Mirroring with NetBSD 1.5.2 and RaidFrameDuring October 2001 I've been setting up a server with NetBSD 1.5.2 RAID-1. While doing this I noted the steps and verified them during the second time I had to setup the thing. The following paper shows the steps needed, to mirror an existing NetBSD installation to a second, identical disk. The Server will still work and boot without manual intervention if one of the disks failed. (I have verified this by shutting down the server, unplugging the power from the first disk and starting the server again.) 28.10.2002: I have updated the paper with differences for NetBSD 1.6 Here's the paper as: Updating from NetBSD 1.5.x to 1.6 on a mirrored SystemDuring October 2002 I had to update quite a few i386 NetBSD machines to Release 1.6. As far as I know, it is not possible to upgrade RAIDFrame mirrored systems directly with sysinst. So I used the manual route and wrote down how I did it. Please note: Though I have verified the instructions by doing several upgrades with them, I can't guarantee that it works out for you. Don't even think about upgrading if you don't have a backup of your data! You have been warned... Here's the paper as: |
